  1. I can't quite articulate it, but maybe free sharing of information has something to do with power and control of knowledge. I wonder what the publishing world thinks about this movement. Thanks for sharing! :)

  2. The presenters promised to e-mail me their PowerPoint, which I'll download. Here are a few of the reasons they gave for OER:

    Save students money. Here's as little research you might do: walk down the aisles of the university bookstore and look at what you get for the money. Last time I did this I saw a trade paperback (used) that was 3/4" thick for $125.00. Let's face it, our students are getting ripped off--and we're helping.

    Provide instruction. Many students forgo buying the textbook when it's overpriced.

    Provide materials better suited to the course and the student body.

    Provide collaboration between faculty.

  3. Good insights! One textbook can't fit the unique needs of every classroom. Even used books are insanely priced.
