The Vendor Room: Proctor U

I spent some time this morning in the vendor's room taking short videos. Here's one about Proctor U, a company that proctors exams for online courses. This isn't something I'd ever use. I don't give tests, I give writing assignments. It is interesting to see the kinds of online course problems that different companies are trying to solve--for a fee.

  1. My friend's boyfriend does this! We have come to the consensus that it sounds awesome in theory. I don't think that universities will buy into it. Right now his job prospects are shaky. He keeps trying to move from Houston to California so he can improve his prospects. Technology moves at such a fast rate, how long will it be before we can fake all of those conditions they are looking for? Lazy teens watching out for lazy teens is basically what this girl explained to me was going on in her boyfriend's workplace.
I know it sounds good on paper, but ....

  2. I have never even thought of such an idea. I guess a lot of online learning occurs at home. So, people are recording students while they take tests? That seems like it might create some privacy issues. I am beginning to realize that digital learning is so new, with so many commercial opportunities, and unknowns. I am guessing the conferences are a little like the wild west with lots of interesting and innovative ideas.

  3. There were three venders selling proctoring services. When I took the GRE it was online at a Sylvain Learning Systems site. Sounds like this might be a trend.
