The Vendor Room: Entrepreneurship

I'm not sure what to do with this one. HP is offering 30 minute online classes on entrepreneurship. When I asked the vendor how much the programs cost, she told me they were free. HP is doing this as part of their public service. Interesting.

  1. I love the idea that a company can have compassion. To see that they want to community to succeed is empowering.
Now... on to my darker suspicions...
If this company's goal is to ultimately make money, what would they have to gain through this?
At the very least, they gain my opinion of them. I am already eating out of the palm of their hand. I think they are nice for producing something that will cost them virtually nothing. I paid over $1,000 for my HP laptop. Truth be told, I cried over how much I disliked it. Somehow this video will change my opinion of them to make them "more human" in my eyes. WHY?! They are out to make money. If I spent that much, think of how much money they will make in profit when people remember the compassionate computer company?

I had the same issue with my virus protection. I have Norton. I thought I had a virus that my virus scan wasn't catching. I went to Norton website to resolve issue. Off of their secure website I was given a free link to a download program that was supposed to be a superior virus wiper. Tell me this, why would a company who charges for their service offer a superior service to everyone for free?
