Everyone Complains about Wikipedia, but no one does anything about it--until now

Has anyone had an interest in editing Wikipedia as a writing assignment for your course?

I work for Wiki Education Foundation (please see wikiedu.org for more info), a nonprofit that helps university instructors and students contribute to Wikipedia. Basically, students write Wikipedia articles in place of a traditional term paper, or as the literature review of a longer analytical paper — giving them a chance to write for a real audience, and to have direct impact on the breadth and depth of Wikipedia's coverage.

The assignment motivates students by giving them an authentic space for their writing, while encouraging them to dissect and analyze knowledge production through careful selection and analysis of sources, and it can add a digital literacy and writing development component to any topic.

Wiki Ed has been doing this for 4+ years now across the US and Canada. Right now we're looking to expand the number of courses we support, so if this sounds like a good fit for you, drop me a line. I thought this community might be interested in particular, as we have worked closely with writing centers in the past to support students during their Wikipedia assignments. I'm happy to answer questions here (if everyone is OK with that), or otherwise through a direct email. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.
